Pinole PD LogoGreetings Pinole Community,

I apologize that I am unavailable to share this sentiment with you personally. The events in Minnesota are both appalling and contrary to the values of the Pinole Police Department. The treatment of Mr. Floyd was in direct contrast to what we expect of our officers and failed to meet the #1 goal of the law enforcement profession, which is the preservation of life. Individuals we contact will be treated with dignity, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, age, and ability.

We are honored to serve such a great community and have built great relationships with our citizens and those who visit Pinole. Our officers are held to some of the most comprehensive standards of officers across the United States and receive annual training in use of force, including de-escalation tactics. In fact, our agency was the first in the United States to partner with ThinBlueOnline, a national company that provides every officer with ongoing de-escalation training, as de-escalation is a skill built through practice. We have also recently upgraded to the latest body worn camera technology and operate under a policy that mandates the activation of body worn cameras on every contact.

The actions by the officers in Minneapolis threaten not only the relationships we have built with our citizens, but the relationships between police and citizen across our great nation and further undermines the law enforcement profession.

In regard to the Community of Pinole, we are currently monitoring the events that are occurring around the nation, as well as closely monitoring social media platforms for any intelligence regarding events that may directly affect our community. At this time, we have located social media posts that describe a scheduled peaceful protest for June 4th at 4:00 PM at Fernandez Park. Our investigators are currently working to identify and locate the event coordinators in hopes of working together to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all. Yesterday, our officers met with our local merchants to provide notification of this proposed event, so that educated decisions can be made as far as securing and/or closing their businesses. As you know, this is a very fluid situation and we will continue to provide timely updates as they unfold and become available.

Last night, our City was descended upon by hundreds of individuals from outside our jurisdiction with intent to do nothing more than create mayhem in our community. I am proud of the actions of your Pinole Police Department. Their dedication, resiliency and commitment to the safety of our residents lead to no confirmed looting incidents, minimal property damage and most importunately, no reported injuries.

Lastly, we look forward to continuing to develop and improve relationships with our citizens, as we ensure a safe community by providing exemplary law enforcement service while engaging our citizens with Honor, Integrity, Professionalism, and Respect. United, the Pinole Community will endure; we will grow, and we will become stronger. We stand with you. #PinoleUnited.

Thank you and God Bless,
Chief Neil H. Gang
