The application process for filling many of the City's vacancies includes an interview by the City Council subcommittee and recommendations are submitted to the City Council for formal appointment. Boards and Commissions appointments range from two-year to four-year terms. Unless otherwise specified, the application period for these vacancies is continuous until filled.

Below are the City of Pinole's active Boards and Commissions:

The City Clerk conducts recruitment for advisory board positions. Applications remain active for one year and applicants will be contacted if unscheduled vacancies occur.

Planning Commission
 

The Planning Commission assists with the preparation, adoption and maintenance of a long-range, General Plan for the physical growth and development of the city and areas related directly to the city. The General Plan shall reflect the future goals of the city after its adoption by the City Council and shall represent the city's policy on matters of physical development. It shall guide the general location of future public facilities and improvements and aid in the encouragement and regulation of private development. The Planning Commission meets at 7 PM on the 4th Monday each month except when there is a holiday conflict. Additional meetings are held as needed.


Community Services Commission

The Community Services Commission is comprised of seven members who must be Pinole residents. The Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council in matters pertaining to public recreation, parks, arts and cultural activities, historical activities, public access television activities, senior and youth activities, and community services. The Commission reviews and recommends policies and procedures governing recreation, park and community services for approval by the City Council; maintains relationships with schools, community and civic organizations; advocates for recreation and community services for the community; and collaborates with civic clubs, nonprofit organizations and citizen groups to provide funds, property and or volunteerism for the development and operation of parks and recreation facilities. The Community Services Commission meets monthly on the 4th Wednesday at 5pm. Commissioners service two-year terms.

Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Committee

The Pinole Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Committee is a five member panel who recommend or review action on traffic safety, traffic control and planning, speed limits, parking and other traffic related matters. The committee makes recommendations to the City Council; committee members service two-year terms.

    OTHER BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS (Not actively recruiting)

    Contra Costa Library Commission   
    The purpose of the Contra Costa Library Commission is to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors and the County Librarian, to provide community linkage to the County Library. To establish a forum for the community to express its views regarding the goals and operations of the County Library and to develop and recommend proposals to the Board of Supervisors and County Librarian for the betterment of the library, including efforts to ensure a stable and adequate funding level for services.

    Contra Costa Council on Aging 

    In accordance with the Older Americans Act, the Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging (ACOA) is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to advise them on all matters associated with the planning, development and administration of programs relating to older adults. The ACOA is staffed by representatives of the Contra
    Costa County Area Agency on Aging (AAA). The ACOA consists of forty (40) members. Membership is determined by application and appointment.

    Fifty percent (50%) of the ACOA must be age 60 and above. The ACOA strives to represent or 'mirror' the diversity of the county's population with attention to the following factors: geography, economics, racial, cultural and ethnic origin, language, ability/disability, sexual orientation, and of course age. Public hearings are held a minimum of once each year. The AOCA does much of its work through its committees and work groups. These include: Housing, Health, Legislative Advocacy, Education & Outreach and Transportation.
