Welcome to the Pinole Senior Center website. The following information is intended to give you an overview of the Center's programs and activities.
Governed and run by senior volunteers, the Pinole Senior Center's programs are designed to appeal to a wide range of mature adults residing within the City of Pinole and surrounding communities. Recognizing that today's "retirees" span quite a significant age range, the Center offers a friendly, lively atmosphere where you can hang out with old friends, meet new people, pursue an avid hobby or interest or try a new one. Dedicated to the needs, interests and vitality of today's seniors, we are always striving to expand our social, recreational, physical, and nutritional programs and services.
The type of classes and programs offered are as varied and diverse as the seniors that attend them. To assist you in keeping healthy we offer aerobics: weight training, Tai Chi, wellness program, personal health training and walking groups. For those of you who prefer alternative ways to keep in shape, we offer a variety of dance classes - tap, hula, ballroom or country & western line dancing. If you need a break from all that exercise we have bridge, pinochle, and pool/billiards. We also offer a number of classes such as arts and crafts and woodcarving, as well as a variety of support group caregiver's support group, discussion group or diabetes support group. If you're hungry, our Center offers delicious, healthy and creative cuisine home-made soup every day, pork chops, turkey (not pressed turkey) and good old fashion meat loaf just to list a few.
If you're lucky enough to have a green thumb, you may be interested in the Pinole Youth and Senior Garden, which is an intergenerational project. Senior volunteers will help plan the garden, oversee the garden, lead workshops and serve as garden docents. Working side by side with seniors, your young protégés will learn about planting, growing and harvesting plants. (And the produce will be used in the healthy daily lunches offered at the Center!)
Never before have today's seniors been so healthy, active and vigorous as they are today. The Board of Directors and I are very proud of the fact that our Center's programs appeal to such a wide range of ages, interests and physical abilities. We hope you'll stop in and check us out for yourself we think you'll be very glad you did. If you have any questions or require additional information, you may contact me directly by phone (510-724-9800) or by e-mail (jtorres@ci.pinole.ca.us). We hope to see you!
