The California Department of Justice provides an automated service for criminal history background checks that may be required as a condition of employment, licensing, certification, foreign adoptions or VISA/Immigration clearances.

Live Scan technology allows digitally scanned fingerprints to be submitted electronically to the Department of Justice within a matter of minutes and allows criminal background checks to be processed usually within 72 hours.

In California, a certified fingerprint roller or qualified law enforcement personnel must do fingerprinting.

Fees:

• $30.00 for Residents
• $35.00 for Non-Residents

Additional Fees Charged by the State Department of Justice and FBI may be applicable (California Files Only or California/ FBI Files up to $100.00) if not sponsored by an accredited routing number from an authorized subscriber.

Times:

This service will be available to citizens between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (on non-holidays). Please call before coming to the Police Department to confirm availability of the service.
