Effective September 1, 2009, Senate Bill 731 became effective in the State of California.
This bill creates a state level certification for massage therapists in the State of California. Applicants are required to take a national certification exam, submit Livescan fingerprints, and complete a criminal background check through the State of California Massage Therapy Organization. If certification is approved through the State, local jurisdictions are required to honor the therapist's certificate. For additional information, please reference the California Massage Therapy Organization's website.
